HS Sports Digest – 5/11

Baseball

Salina Central swept Valley Center 4-1, 5-2. In game one, Central fell behind 1-0 after the first. The Mustangs broke the game open with a run in the third, fourth, and two in the fifth. Jaxon Kolzow was 2-for-3 with two runs. Caden Kickhaefer was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Kade Cyre threw 6 1/3 innings, gave up five hits, one run, and struck out two. Salina Central plated four runs in the third in game two to take control. Kickhaefer was 1-for-2 with two RBI. Nick Clayson tossed 5 1/3 frames, scattered three hits and two runs.

Andover Central won both games versus Salina South 1-0, 5-3.

Sacred Heart swept Beloit 8-1, 11-10. The Trojans were limited to two hits in the opener. Evan Bogart set the tone with seven strikeouts in five innings. Bogart also logged four RBI. The nightcap was back-and-forth. Beloit grabbed a 9-5 advantage after scoring five in the fifth. Sacred Heart answered with four runs in the sixth. Beloit jumped ahead 10-9 with a run in the seventh, but Sacred Heart scored two in the bottom half to get the walkoff win. Jacob Gormley had three hits and drove in three.

Smoky Valley fell to Haven 2-0, 5-0.

Ell-Saline split with Bennington. Ell-Saline won the opener 9-8. Bennington and Ell-Saline combined for 10 runs in the second. Bennington took the lead with two runs in the fourth before three runs by Ell-Saline to get the win. Kayden Goddard was 1-for-3 with three RBI and a run. Bennington took the series finale 6-5. Bennington led 5-1 after four innings. Ell-Saline tied it up in the sixth before Bennington grabbed the lead for good in the seventh. Kade Wilson was 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Softball

Salina Central lost to Valley Center 8-0, 8-3.

Salina South defeated Hays 14-4 and Andover Central 2-0. Salina South pounded out 17 hits against the Indians. Chana Wolfe and Lainey Howard each drove in three. Jenna Henderson threw all five innings and recorded four strikeouts. Wolfe was exceptional in the nightcap. Wolfe struck out eight and gave up three hits in a complete game shutout. Emily Anderson drove in both runs for South.

Smoky Valley lost to Haven 11-1, 7-0.

Ell-Saline swept Bennington 9-1, 16-1. In the opener, Raleigh Kramer scattered five hits in seven innings, striking out 10. She recorded her 100th strikeout of the season in the process. Sadie Bradley registered four hits and had three RBI. Kramer had four hits and three RBI in the nightcap. Raynee Hardesty also had three RBI.

Girls Soccer

Salina Central defeated Ark City 10-0. Callie Sanborn scored six of the 10 goals for Central.

Salina South edged Campus 1-0. Jayden McLaughlin recorded her seventh shutout in the net. Anahyssa Nash scored the lone goal.
