After a two-year ban, fireworks will be allowed this year in the city of Hays.
The Hays City Commission voted Monday night to allow fireworks within city limits July 2-4.
The commission chose in May to continue the ban for a third year. But vendors and residents have asked the commission to reconsider the ban after rain fell in June, with nearly 2 inches last weekend. A standing-room-only crowd attended Monday’s special commission meeting.
The commission cautioned that the city is still in a drought. The fireworks ban remains in effect outside of Hays city limits and the city of Ellis.
