George Grabon, 80 of Salina, passed away Friday, October 29, 2021.
George was born the
only child to William and Jeanette (Aronowicz) Grabon on June 10, 1941, in New York City, New York.
George attended and graduated from New York University with a bachelor’s degree.
George enlisted in the Navy on August 12, 1964. His enlistment time took him to places he never would have imagined. He was sent to Vietnam, where he earned the Navy Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal with Device, and the Vietnam Service medal with two (2) Stars. George was always proud to have served this country and we should all be thankful he did.
During George’s term in the Navy, George met his future wife, Myra Duthie, while stationed in Scotland. George eventually married Myra on June 26, 1971, in Dundee, Scotland.
Following the service, George found employment as a business consultant, before a transition to working for Jamaica Water Supply, and finally working in management for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection.
In his spare time, George enjoyed reading history, historical fiction and fantasy books, as well as collecting stamps, and building Lego sets.
George was preceded in death by his parents; William and Jeannette (Aronowicz) Grabon.
George is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years; Myra Grabon, a fine son; Andrew and his wife Susan Grabon of Beloit, and one grandson; Evan Grabon.
George will receive military honors graveside at 1:30pm, Monday, November 15, 2021, at the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery at Fort Riley, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd, Manhattan, KS.
