Betty Lynette Musick was born on March 25, 1942, in Concordia, Kansas to B. Russell Alcorn and Della La Verta (Wheeler) Alcorn. She graduated from Concordia High School. After one year at Fort Hays State University, she married Richard DeWitt. Three sons were born to this union: Steven, John, and Dennis.

Betty earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Science from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She taught English, Sociology, and Spanish in Lincoln and Franklin, Nebraska and Concordia and Scandia, Kansas before moving to the Cloud County Clerk’s office where she served for thirty years, twenty-four as County Clerk. Betty was very active in the Kansas County Clerks’ and Election Officials’ Association, serving on many committees for various Kansas state departments and officers. As State President of the CC&EOA, she was instrumental in creating the continuing education program for County Clerks at Wichita State University.

In 1988 Betty met and married the love of her life, Karl Douglas Musick. Together Betty and Doug spent many years serving Veterans through the VFW and Auxiliary. Betty retired in 2005 and the couple moved to Salina where Betty volunteered as a USD 305 English as a Second Language teacher.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and first husband. Surviving her are her husband Karl Douglas Musick; sons Steven (Barbara) DeWitt, Bennington, John DeWitt, Salina, and Dennis (Jennifer) DeWitt, Abilene; brothers Ben (Dee) Alcorn, Wichita, and Marion (Jackie) Alcorn, College Station, Texas; granddaughters Ashley (fiancé Jason Hekele) DeWitt, Olathe, and Chelsey (Collin) Giambrone, Olathe; grandsons Tyler (Dr Krista) DeWitt, Salina and Eli DeWitt, Abilene; great-granddaughters Allison LaValette, Olathe, and Reagan DeWitt, Salina; great-grandson Paxton DeWitt, Salina; aunt LaVerne Stringham, Paola; sister-in-law Debra Wilhm, Bentonville, Arkansas; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Cremation was chosen and the family will hold a private celebration of life.
