Ann Lee Straub Jett, 86, passed away Sunday, December 19th, 2021. Loving wife of the late Dr. Harry Joe Jett; dear mother of David, Kirk (Denise), Charles (Beverly), Andrew, and Thomas (Melinda); dear grandmother “Nana” of Carson and Harrison, Cade, and Sarita; dear sister of Patsy (Chester); dear aunt, cousin, and friend of many.
Ann was born March 20th, 1935 in Clarinda, Iowa and raised in St. Joseph, Missouri by her parents, Charles and Helen Straub. She attended the University of Kansas and was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Harry loved to tell the story of when he first saw Ann at Corbin Hall; he was so struck by her smile and beauty that he walked by her twice, flustered and tongue-tied. They both graduated in the class of 1957, she with a degree in Elementary Education, and they were married on May 31st of that year. They moved to Kansas City, Kansas where Harry attended dental school and Ann was an elementary school teacher.
Ann and Harry moved to Salina in 1961 where they raised their five sons. She then returned to the classroom as a fifth-grade teacher at Meadowlark Ridge Elementary until her retirement in 1993. She was truly a dedicated and conscientious teacher to her children, grandchildren, and students. She loved working with young people and continued to be involved with children by teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
Ann served as both a Deacon and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church, charter member of The Greater Salina Community Foundation, and was a member of the Salina Charities League, Chapter DL of PEO, and the Salina Education Foundation. When she wasn’t volunteering, Ann was an avid tennis player, attended book clubs, bridge groups, and most especially enjoyed caring for her family, friends and neighbors. She was a most beautiful, humble, loving and selfless human being.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 22nd, 2021 at the First Presbyterian Church on 308 S. 8th St. at 10 o’clock.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the First Presbyterian Church or the Salina Educational Foundation.
