Bruce Lacy, 68, of Salina, Kan., passed away on Monday, December 20, 2021. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to George and Lillian Lacy. He joined the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam War. Shortly after his discharge he met his wife, Ethel “Mickie” Lacy, in Fairfield, Calif. They were married within three months of their first meeting. They would have been married for 44 years on April 1, 2022. Together they raised four children, James, Shomari, Jaclyn, and Shannon. He was also a grandfather to Marion, Deniseia, D’Vaughnte, Destiniey, Monè, Soleil, Ashara, Carter, and Gio’Vanni. Bruce has one surviving sister, who resides in Brooklyn, N.Y., Brenda Lacy.

Bruce’s first love was “Nature”. He earned a living and took care of his family doing what he loved the most, “Land Surveying.” After leaving surveying, he turned his attention to his second love, music. He met many amazing people from all over the world and from all walks of life. He shared the stage with many of the greats; The Whispers, The Temptations, Earth Wind and Fire, Tower of Power, and many more. Bruce also stood tall on his own stage during his musical journey. He contributed his talents as a writer, producer, and vocal performer to the family business, “Boss Mink Music and Production LLC”. In 2000, he joined his endeared musical family, “Hip Service,” out of Sacrament, Calif. The group dominated the Northern California music industry with the live performance shows. Bruce also won an award for “Entertainer Of The Year,” presented by BMA (Black Music Awards), which is now presented in Los Angeles, Calif.

After relocating to Salina, Kan., the town his wife grew up in, he met many warm an amazing people: Dr. Carolyn Hofer and her amazing team; Bethina Bruces, movie partner, they always reminded each other of the latest great movies and concerts; John and Cindy Zimmerman; Joe Jackson; Wendy Stein, who shared in his love of music; Caleb Rivera; Mike, Tammy and the Ad Astra family; Ed and Phyll Klima; Dr. Trent and Dr. Pam Davis; Dexter, his cookie buddy, and Ann Zimmerman; Ashley Wheeler; the late Flash Gorden; Nick La Marca; Sarah Crews; Anna Morawitz; Joe and the Zafija Band; Lori Brock; Brad Anderson of the “SPARK” crew; Bill Martin; Misty at the Art Center, who invited him to do a voiceover for one of their projects; Brent Magathan; Jane Gates; David and Janice Norland; and so many others.

Bruce was also grateful for Coach Doug Finch and Coach Ryan Modin for molding his grandson, Coach Marion Miller. Which brings us to his Basketball family. The Wentzel family and the Neuschafer family, and we definitely can’t forget the “Grandparents Section” and all our adopted basketball sons.

It was important to Bruce to be a part of anything to do with the Arts and Music and Human Rights. He enjoyed the time and energy he put into supporting the Salina Arts and Humanities and serving on the Friends of the Museum Board and the Smokey Hill River Festival Entertainment Committee. He would always lend his support for the community whenever needed.

A deep love and respect goes to: The FIGU groups of Canada, Switzerland, Japan, Arizona, New York /New Jersey, India, North Carolina, Germany, Italy, Australia, Asia (Hong Kong), and Russia, who work tirelessly to share the, ”The Creation Energy Teaching”.

Bruce was laid to rest at Heartland Prairie Cemetery, New Cambria, Kan., on December 24, 2021.
