Samuel R Moler, 82, of Salina,KS died December 27, 2021. He was born July 19, 1939 in Garden City, KS to Myron and Christabell Moler. He graduated from the Garden City Schools and continued his education to earn his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
He used this education in capacities such as building roads, a dam in Jetmore, KS, and serving as County Engineer. He was a business partner in an asphalt company and was owner of a land surveying company until retiring in 1996.
Sam served in the US Army from 1962-1964 After retirement, Sam taught himself woodworking. He made everything from the tiniest box, wooden toys, desks, coffee tables and river tables. He made many wood plaques with crosses for the VBS children to finish. He made thousands of small crosses to hand out to both friends and strangers.
He married JoJean Mitschler in 1958. To this union was born Pamela Jo (Clay) Goodwin. After the marriage ended, he married Judy Jean Bates in 1962. Two sons were born to Judy and Sam: Kris Robert (Connie) Moler and Kurt Roger (Nikki) Moler of Cimmaron, KS. After Judy’s death, Sam married Myrna Brandt in 2013 and moved to Salina.
Sam is survived by his wife Myrna, brother Larry, daughter Pam, son Kurt, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Mitch (Shelly) Griffith and Brandon (Lanell) Griffith, three step-grandchildren and five great step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Marjorie Hankins, brother Jack Moler, his wife Judy of 49 years, and his son Kris.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, January 5 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Covenant Church of Salina.
