SALINA – Janie May Lamer, 67, passed away on February 12, 2022. She was born Janie May Arrington on April 19, 1954, in Salina, KS. She was a lifelong resident of Salina and graduated from Salina Central High School in 1972. She earned an associate degree from Cloud County Community College. She was united in marriage to Lowell Lamer on January 17, 1976. They recently celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary.
Janie had a love of reading and shared her love of books with many during her years she worked as a librarian at the Salina Public Library. She retired after more than 40 years of service in the children’s department. She could find any book anyone was looking for and also had a vast knowledge of the history of the library.
Janie also was an avid gardener who loved spending time in her flower gardens. She loved gardening with her family when her children were young, and after her children were grown, she and her husband shared their love of gardening together. Most of all she loved her children and grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of First Christian Church in Salina. Janie was a member of the Friends of the Salina Public Library and also of Mothers of Multiples.
Janie was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Arrington. She is survived by her husband, Lowell, and by her twin daughters, Kimberly Bartel (Lance) and Stephanie Holston (Ben) both of Wichita, KS. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Candace and Bryson Britting, and Abby, Carson, Ethan, Ellie, and Charlotte Bartel, all of Wichita.
Janie will be deeply missed by her family and those who knew her. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday February 16, 2022, at Ryan Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Thursday February 17, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Ryan Mortuary. Memorials may be made to the Friends of the Salina Public Library in care of the mortuary.
