Dr. Perry Uriah Hunsley, 93, of Salina passed away on Tuesday April 26th. Perry, a resident of the Presbyterian Manor of Salina was born in Alamota, KS and completed nurse’s training at College of Emporia. He served in the US Army National Guard and graduated from the University of Kansas Medical School in 1957.
Dr. Hunsley practiced family medicine in Belleville, Kansas until 1972, when he moved with his family to Ohio to complete his residency in surgery at Akron General Medical Center. He then moved to Branson, Missouri where he was Chief of Surgery at Skaggs Community Health Center for 17 years.
In addition to being a distinguished professional and devoted husband and father, Perry was an avid bridge player, boater, fisherman, golfer, licensed pilot, reader of history, international traveler, and, in his retirement, a highly accomplished and prolific artist.
He is survived by his children Jean Schmidt (Robert) of Roswell, GA; Nancy Kriks (Herb) of Hinckley, OH; Jan Van de Kerkhove (Peter) of Pinckney, MI; and Julie Pagán (Michael) of Lee’s Summit, MO; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by Phyllis Hamme Hunsley, his wife of 56 years and their son, Perry Tom Hunsley.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 2nd at Sunrise Presbyterian Church in Salina. A reception will follow. Interment will take place immediately following at Keystone Cemetery in Manchester.
