A gun is stolen after a Salina couple reaches out to help a hitchhiker.
Police say a 62-year-old man and his wife picked up a Hispanic male who was hitchhiking north of Park City on I-135 Monday afternoon and drove back to Salina.
The couple fed the man at Coyote Canyon then allowed him to clean up at their home with a shower and change of clothes.
The two then opened up their living room for the hitchhiker to spend the night.
The man told officers he felt a little nervous with a stranger in his home and decided to keep a watch while holding his black powder .44 caliber cap and ball pistol.
When the man awoke , the hitchhiker and gun were both gone.
The pistol is valued at $600.
