Dorothy Ruth Kolle, 93, died Monday July 18th, 2022 at Smoky Hill Health and Rehab in Salina, Kansas.
On December 10th, 1928, God gave Gus and Eva (Martin) Schubert the gift of a baby girl, Dorothy Ruth. She was baptized and confirmed into God’s family at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Dorothy grew up on a farm and attended Ramona Grade School and Ramona High School, graduating May of 1946.
Dorothy married Paul Deines on August 3rd, 1947. To this union, they were blessed with six children, making their homes over the years in Ramona, Hillsboro, and Lyons, Kansas.
Paul lost his battle with cancer on March 21st, 1963. Dorothy and children moved to Lost Springs and she started nursing school with the help of her parents with the children. She graduated from McPherson School of Nursing with her LPN February 1968. She started her nursing career at St. Luke Hospital in Marion and stayed until her retirement for 26 years.
Dorothy married HD Hayward January 4th, 1974, making their home in Marion. He preceded her in death November 7th, 1985.
Dorothy met Elvin Kolle through a mutual friend. They married April 21st, 1990. After her retirement from St. Luke in 1994, they moved to Linn, Kansas. Elvin passed away February 26th, 2003.
Dorothy moved to Salina in 2004 and was active in RSVP Chorus, volunteering, and various areas of Christ the King Lutheran Church over the years.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister Carol Johnson; 2 sons; Brad Deines and Larry Deines; and 1 daughter, Cindy Dunning; 2 grandchildren, Nathan and Shelby; and 1 great grandchild, Elise Noer.
She is survived by sons, Steve Deines (Sandra) of Pierce City, Missouri and Bill Deines of Topeka, Kansas; daughter, Paula Berg (Jerrold) of Salina, Kansas; daughters-in-law; Jeanie Deines of Kokomo, Indiana, Sherry Deines of Douglas, Wyoming; son-in-law, Steve Dunning of Assaria, Kansas; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Thursday, July 21st at Carlson – Geisendorf Funeral Home & Crematory with family present from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Thursday, July 21st the funeral home.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, July 22nd, at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Salina, Kansas with Rev. Aaron Wagner officiating.
Burial will be at 1:30 pm, Friday, July 22nd, at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Ramona, Kansas.
