Rosalee Mary Steimel, 61, of Salina, Kansas, died July 25, 2022. Rose was born on May 26, 1961, in Ellinwood, Kansas. She was the youngest child of Herman and Waneta Steimel, granddaughter of Martin and Adela Vogel and Adolph and Anna Steimel.
As the youngest of six children, Rose was close to her siblings, nieces, and nephews her entire life. She graduated from Claflin High School in 1979 and Barton County Community College with a full tennis scholarship. She earned a B.S. in Business and Data Processing Magna Cum Laude in 1982 as well as a M.B.A. in 1983 from Fort Hays State University. In 1991, Rose completed her Ph.D. from Kansas State University in Curriculum and Instruction within Computer Science.
Rose was a college professor in computer studies and taught at Fort Hays State University, Marymount College, Benedictine College in Salina, and Kansas Wesleyan University. Throughout the years, she was promoted to Professor of Computer Studies and Assistant M.B.A. Director. Rose served as Chairperson of the Department of Computer Science, Chairperson of the Division of Natural Sciences, and served on many faculty and university committees. Rose retired from KWU in 2020 and was named Professor Emeritus in Computer Studies.
Surviving family include her sister, Carol Ahlvers, with her children, Leslie (Andrew) Amick, and Nolan (Lindsay) Ahlvers. She is survived by her brother, Lyle (Barbara) Steimel, and their children, Jessica Steimel, Adam (Kat) Steimel, Kimberly Steimel, and Dan (Liz) Steimel. She is survived by her sister, Sharon Steimel and husband Steve Thomas with their children, Kelly (Dave) Lohrmeyer, Eric (Erica) Thomas, and Drew Thomas and wife, Mallory Krahn. Her deceased brothers’ children are Della Strait, Pam (Scott) Wiederholt, Deb Steimel (Joe) Clair, Charles (Sarah) Steimel; and Carrie Steimel. She is survived by sister-in-law, Lorene Steimel. Also, Rose had 29 great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Steimel, sister-in-law Maridell, brother Glenn Steimel, and brother-in-law David Ahlvers.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 30, 2022 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1000 Burr Oak Lane, Salina, KS. A vigil will be held at 9:30 a.m. for a rosary and reflection. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Salina.
