Bethany Men Complete Bethel Sweep, Women Stumble

Bethany’s Kristijan Joksimovic scored the first six points of the game, and the Bethany Swedes never looked back against Bethel Saturday night in Lindsborg. The Swedes led wire to wire en route to a 77-69 victory, capping off a season sweep of the Threshers.

Led by Joksimovic, and Lavaris Duncan’s 11 first half points, Bethany opened up a 13 point lead, and led 41-28 at intermission.

Bethel trimmed Bethany’s advantage to three, 46-43 early in the second half. The Swedes then turned to guard Reed Stephens off the bench. Stephens knocked down three triples on consecutive possessions, sparking a 16-5 Bethany run to pull away. Stephens finished 5-8 from distance, with all five coming in the final half of action.

Bethany forced 17 Bethel turnovers, scoring 26 of their 77 points off Thresher miscues.

The Swedes return to the floor on Wednesday as they entertain Tabor. Pregame coverage for the men’s contest will start at 7:45pm on KVOB, 95.5 The Rock.

Bethel 68, Bethany 64

Game one of the doubleheader featured 40 minutes of hand to hand combat. Bethel went 27-40 from the foul line, and were able to overcome 3-15 shooting from beyond the arc in a four-point win.

Bethany was plagued by foul trouble all night. The Swedes had five players with at least two fouls in the first half, and six players finished the game with at least four fouls.

Bethany guard Kelsi Mueller led the team with 12 points.
