The Saline County Sheriff’s Office is investigating damage to fiber optic cable owned by a communications company out of Galva.

Deputies say someone may have been looking for copper to steal when they damaged the cable that was left at a worksite near Waterwell Road and Burma.

Thieves also took a battery from a trailer owned by Home Communications sometime between Tuesday at 6:30pm and Wednesday morning at 8am.

Total loss and damage is listed at $1,170.
