An infant was transported to a hospital after being bit by a pit bull.

Prairie Village Police say a non-parent caregiver was looking after the infant when the incident took place Thursday night. The child was taken to a hospital with critical injuries.

The pit bull was seized and impounded. At the owner’s request the dog was euthanized.

Police say the child was admitted to the hospital in critical condition.

This incident is part of an ongoing investigation.
