That rumble coming from the Downtown Salina area Thursday night wasn’t thunder. It was the rumble of the Small Town America Tour.
The Christian rock tour rolled into town Thursday morning. By early evening the City of Salina parking lot across the street from the City Teen Center had been transformed into an outdoor concert venue.
The show featured Scarlet White, Shonlock, Seventh Day Slumber, and Fireflight. All are on the cutting-edge of the christian rock scene
Scarlet White lead singer Spencer Minor tells KSAL News that the tour so far, has been “a blast”. “The opportunity to be out on the road, meeting people, and hopefully making a difference in their lives is what it’s all about for us,” he added.
Dawn Michele is the lead singer of Fireflight, one of the headliners. The band is on tour in support of their 5th album. She tells KSAL News that the nearly two month tour has been “exhausting but rewarding.”
Like Minor, Michele also sees the tour as an opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives. “It’s really been more about the journey than the destination, ” she said. “Our music is geared toward people who are going through intense situations, or even in crisis. We just want to let them know God loves them,” she added.
The Small Town America Tour continues through November 8th.
