Police were looking for a driver who fled the scene of a single vehicle crash in a Salina Park early Sunday morning. The crash happened at around 7:45 in Sunset Park.
Police, and witnesses at the scene told KSAL News that a black SUV entered the park from Republic Street. It followed the one-way road that circles the park.
The SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed, and failed to negotiate a curve in the southeast corner of the park. It jumped a curb, and skidded through the grass.
As it skidded, the SUV clipped a guy wire. The top of a power pole then snapped off and fell to the ground, bringing power lines down with it.
Damage from the crash left the SUV inoperable.
The driver fled the scene on foot, leaving the SUV behind. Multiple officers responded to the area, and began a search.
Police said that when located the driver could face charges that include leaving the scene of an accident, along with several possible traffic citations.
The road on the east side of the park was closed for about an hour and a half, while a Westar Energy crew responded to get the pole and power lines off the ground and a wrecker responded to remove the SUV.
