Construction is underway on a $10 million addition to the Bioscience and Technology Business Center at the University of Kansas.

The Lawrence Journal-World reports the 30,000-square-foot expansion will more than double the space in the existing building, which opened in 2010 and already is full.

The addition will accommodate nine to 15 more business tenants in addition to the nine already there.

It also will provide a home for KU’s Center for Technology Commercialization, plus a laboratory for student entrepreneurs in the university’s business school.

Speaking at Friday’s groundbreaking, Gov. Sam Brownback praised the center for filling with companies ahead of schedule, while similar incubators at other universities around the country have struggled to attract tenants.
