The Volunteer Connection in Salina is offering free income tax return preparation from IRS-certified volunteers through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.
According to the organization, returns will be prepared and e-filed for taxpayers with incomes generally under $53,000, including basic forms 1040 and 1040EZ, State of Kansas returns (in conjunction with filing of a Federal return), earned income tax credits and homestead tax credits (available for homeowners only).
The tax return service is offered on Mondays from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. through Tuesday, April 14 at The Volunteer Connection office, 239 N. Santa Fe Avenue.
Taxpayers must bring a government-issued photo ID, Social Security Cards or Social Security Number Verification Letters or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) letters for all persons in the household born before December 31, 2014, birth dates for all persons claimed on the return, income documentation including W-2 forms from all jobs worked in 2014 and any 1099 forms from interest and dividend statements, forms 1095-A, B, or C (Affordable Health Care Statements), 2014 property tax bills, if claiming the Homestead Refund, the total paid for daycare and the provider’s tax id number, if claiming child care credits, and a blank check for direct deposit of a refund. A copy of last year’s federal and state returns is helpful, if available.
