A radio revival is coming to your dial on NewsRadio 1150 KSAL on Saturdays at Noon.
“We’ve been in production all summer and now we’re ready to debut the show and it’s going to be on every week,” said Ray Wills, producer of the Kansas Radio Theatre (KRT).
The Wichita native tells KSAL News that after spending time in New York as a professional actor he returned home to teach, but kept dreaming about bringing ‘Theatre of the Mind’ back to radio.
“We do a live radio play with sound effects in the studio and all kinds of terrific actors. Hopefully it’s going to take us back to the good old days of radio where people could use their imaginations,” he said.
According to Wills the program boasts a live band, a historian, a cowboy poet, plus comedy bits and serials that will have a hint of the famous Prairie Home Companion radio series.
Wills also envisions a day where the entire KRT crew travels around the state to perform in front of live audiences at Kansas venues like the Stiefel Theatre in Salina.
The Kansas Radio Theatre will premiere this weekend, Saturday, August 5, 2017 on eleven Rocking M Media radio stations around the state reaching over 4 million Kansans every week.
KRT fans can also catch a replay of the program on KSAL on Sunday nights at 8pm beginning August 6, 2017.
