Overnight storms dropped heavy rain and hail around the area, including in the Ottawa County community of Minneapolis where some of the largest hail fell.
According to the National Weather Service, hail up to 2 inches in diameter fell. Officials from Ottawa County tell KSAL News that hail up to the size of baseballs fell in some parts of the community of Minneapolis. Trees, cars, and buildings were damaged. Structure damage included broken windows and damage to roofs.
Along with large hail, there was intense lightning and heavy rain. The rain prompted a flood warning for a portion of Ottawa County.
In the Salina area, heavy rain and small hail up to the size of dimes fell. Nearly .75 inches of rain was reported at the Salina Regional Airport.
More showers and thunderstorms are expected over the weekend. Severe weather is not expected, although locally heavy rain is possible
