A Kansas lawmaker is facing criticism over racist comments regarding African-Americans and drugs.

Republican State Representative Steve Alford of Ulysses remarked during a legislative coffee session in Garden City this past weekend that African-Americans had the worst response to marijuana because of their genetics and “character makeup.” Alford made the comment in response to a question about marijuana legalization.

Alford issued an apology yesterday amid growing criticism.
