A man has been arrested in the fatal stabbing of a woman in northeast Kansas.
A news release says the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Potawatomi Tribal Police responded to the stabbing around 12:45 a.m. Saturday near Mayetta. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that the victim was identified as 49-year-old Leann M. Sanchez, of Mayetta.
Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse said the suspect had been arrested earlier this year in connection with a series of less serious charges, including trafficking contraband into a jail and possession of a hallucinogenic drug. He was out on bond when he was arrested.
Bond in the homicide case is set at $1 million.
