A man has died after jumping into a suburban Wichita pond after leading police on a car chase.
A Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor says that the unidentified man entered a local car dealership around 9:16 p.m. and was flashing some knives. The person who called 911 told dispatchers the man left the building, got into a vehicle and drove away with police in pursuit.
The dispatcher says the man bailed out of his car after hitting spike strips and jumped into a pond near Park City. Divers pulled him from the pond about 45 minutes later, but he was in cardiac arrest and couldn’t be revived.
The man’s age and place of residence weren’t immediately known.
