The Southeast of Saline Trojan football team won the 2023 NCAA high school football championship Friday night when they defeated NCAA rival Ellsworth 30-0 in the final week of the regular season.
The win improved Southeast of Saline to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in NCAA play while it was the first loss for Ellsworth, who dropped to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in NCAA action.
Beloit High School is the lone team to have its volleyball team still alive this season, as the Lady Trojans qualified for the Class 2A sub-state tournament this past Saturday.

BELOIT
The Trojan football team snapped a 2-game losing streak and finished the regular season at 4-4 Friday night when it defeated Hays Thomas More Prep 14-6. The Trojans will open Class 2A playoff play Friday night when they play host to Lakin. … The Lady Trojan volleyball team played host to Phillipsburg in a non-conference best of 5 match Tuesday and closed out the regular season with a 3-0 victory. The Lady Trojans qualified for this week’s Class 2A state tournament after winning the sub-state tournament with three straight victories. The Lady Trojans opened sub-state play with a 2-0 victory against Riley County, follow by blanking Russell 2-0 and won the sub-state championship with a 2-0 victory against Nemaha Central.
ELLSWORTH
The Bearcat football team suffered its first loss of the season Friday night when it fell 30-0 against Southeast of Saline. The Bearcats will open Class 2A playoff action Friday night when they play host to Haven. … The Lady Bearcat volleyball team closed out the regular season Tuesday night by playing host to Ell-Saline in a single best of 5 match and won 3-0. The Lady Bearcats finished the 2023 season with a .500 record at 17-17 after falling 2-0 against Hesston in the opening round of sub-state play.
MINNEAPOLIS
The Lion football team dropped its 4th game of the season Friday night to close out the regular season when they lost 41-34 against Riley County. The Lions will open postseason action Friday night when they play at Silver Lake. … The Lady Lion volleyball team saw its season come to an end Saturday when they lost a 2-0 match against Russell in the opening round of sub-state play. The Lady Lions finished the season with an 18-15 record.
REPUBLIC COUNTY
The Buff football team saw its season come to a close Friday night when they fell 51-20 against Sacred Heart. The Buffs finished the season with an 0-8 record and failed to make the playoffs. … The Lady Buff volleyball team saw its season come to a close Saturday when they lost a 2-0 match against Bennington. The Lady Buffs finished the 2023 season with a 5-27 record.
SACRED HEART
The Knights football team scored its second win of the season Friday night when they defeated Republic County 51-20. The Knights will open Class 1A playoff action Friday night when they play at Sedgwick. … The Lady Knight volleyball team played host to Saline county rival, Southeast of Saline, Tuesday night to close out the 2023 regular season and got swept, falling 2-0 in each match. The Lady Knights finished the 2023 season with a 12-17 record Saturday when they lost a 2-0 match against Ell-Saline in the opening round of sub-state play.
SOUTHEAST OF SALINE
The Trojan football team captured the 2023 NCAA football championship Friday night when they defeated Ellsworth 30-0. The Trojans will open Class 2A playoff action Friday night when they play host to Chaparral. … The Lady Trojan volleyball team completed the 2023 regular season Tuesday night by sweeping an NCAA doubleheader against fellow Saline county rival, Sacred Heart. The Lady Trojans won each match by the same 2-0 count. The Lady Trojans saw their 2023 season come to an end Saturday after a 22-10 campaign. The Lady Trojans opened sub-state play with a 2-0 victory against Nickerson but lost 2-0 against Smoky Valley in the semifinal round.
