With the fall high school sports quickly wrapping up, the North Central Kansas League garnered its first state trophy this past week when the Wamego Lady Raider golf team finished in 2nd place in the Class 4A tournament.

The Lady Raiders finished with a team score of 698, with was 7 shots behind Topeka Hayden, who won the team championship and 7 shots better than Wellington, who finished in third place in the team standings.

The Lady Raiders were led by Addison Douglass, who won the individual championship, with a 2-day total of 146.

The Clay Center Tigers wrapped up the 2023 NCKL football championship Friday night with a 55-7 victory against Marysville. The victory improved Clay Center to 5-0 in NCKL play.

Here is a look at what each NCKL school did in football and volleyball this past week :

ABILENE

The Cowboys suffered their 2nd loss of the season Friday night when they fell 38-14 against Wamego. The Cowboys will open Class 4A playoff action Friday night when they play host to Arkansas City. … The Cowgirl volleyball team saw its 2023 season come to an end Saturday after a 21-16 campaign. The Cowgirls opened sub-state play Saturday by eliminating NCKL foe Concordia 2-1, but had their own season eliminated in the championship match when they fell 2-0 against Clearwater.

CHAPMAN

The Fighting Irish football team scored its third win of the season Friday night when they defeated Clearwater 38-13. The Irish will open Class 3A playoff action Friday night at Rock Creek. … The Lady Irish volleyball team played host to Smoky Valley and Nickerson Tuesday in a non-conference triangular to close the 2023 regular season and got swept in both matches. The Lady Irish fell 2-0 against Nickerson and also lost 2-0 against Smoky Valley. The Lady Irish saw their season end Saturday when they defeated Winfield 2-0 in a sub-state play-in game, but lost 2-0 against Circle in the opening round to finish their season with an 8-25 record.

CLAY CENTER

The Tiger football team sewed up the 2023 NCKL championship Friday night with a 55-7 win against Marysville. The Tigers will open Class 3A playoff action Friday night when they play host to Clearwater. … The Lady Tiger volleyball team closed out the regular season Thursday night when they played a single best of 5 match against Herington. The Lady Tigers won the match 3-0. The Lady Tigers had their season come to an end Saturday when they opened sub-state play with a 2-0 victory against Mulvane but lost 2-1 against Andale in the sub-state championship match.

CONCORDIA

The Lady Panther golf team competed in the Class 4A state tournament Monday and Tuesday and were led by Mya Niehues, who shot a 2-day total of 160 to finish in 8th place individually. … The Panther football team dropped its 6th contest of the season Friday night when they fell 43-7 at Rock Creek. The Panthers will begin playoff action Friday night at Wichita Collegiate. … The Lady Panthers volleyball team saw its 2023 season halted Saturday after a 19-17 campaign when they fell 2-1 against NCKL rival Abilene.

MARYSVILLE

The Bulldog football team suffered its 5th loss of the season Friday night when it fell 55-7 against Clay Center. The Bulldogs will open Class 3A playoff action Friday night at Hiawatha. … The Lady Bulldog volleyball team saw its 2023 campaign come to an end Saturday with a 19-17 record after they opened sub-state play with a 2-0 victory against Norton, but the Lady Bulldogs lost in the semifinals 2-1 against Nemaha Central.

WAMEGO

The Lady Raider golf team competed in the Class 4A state championship this past Monday and Tuesday and shot a 2-day total of 698 to place 2nd in the team standings, 7 shots behind Topeka Hayden who won the team championship. The Lady Raiders claimed the individual championship when Addison Douglass who shot a 146 to win the title. Douglass was the lone Lady Raider to finish in the top 10 individually.

The Red Raider football team scored its 6th victory of the season Friday night when it defeated Abilene 38-14 and will begin Class 4A playoff action Friday night when they play host to El Dorado. …

The Lady Raiders finished the 2023 season with a 10-25 record after getting eliminated from the Class 4A sub-state tournament Saturday. The Lady Raiders opened the tournament with a 2-0 victory against Coffeyville in a play-in match, but lost 2-0 to Rock Creek in the opening round.
