A. Maxine Hays

A. Maxine Hays, 83, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2019. She was born Aug. 16, 1936, in Sedan, to Roy and Ada Comstock.

Maxine was teaching U.S. military dependent children in Germany when she met officer Reese Hays Jr. They were married in Germany May 29 and June 5 of 1964. Maxine was a P.E. and health teacher at Salina Central High School from 1966-99. She and Joan Larson started the volleyball program at Central, and Maxine continued to coach the team for over 20 years. Maxine was a passionate advocate of life-long exercise and good health practices.

Survivors include: her husband of over 55 years, Reese; son, Reese Hays III (Jennifer); daughter, Carney Marchand (Mike); sisters, Theda Loehr and Helen Okrina (Loren); sister-in-law, Carney Ingram (Bill); grandchildren, Tate (Allie), Cannon (Melissa), and Jac Marchand; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her parents; and brother-in-law, Gene Loehr.

Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 1 p.m, at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd, Manhattan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salina Presbyterian Manor, for the Employee Christmas Fund, or Sunrise Presbyterian Church, in care of Ryan Mortuary, Salina.
