Albert B. “Al” Goodson, 88, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 9:30 p.m., Thursday, January 25th, 2018 while in the company of family members, at Angel Arms.
Albert was born in El Dorado, Kansas on June 19, 1929, a son of Flossie Dale (O’Dell) and Robert Thomas Goodson.
Al attended the El Dorado grade schools and graduated in 1947 from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas.
He was a former member of Church of the Nazarene McPherson, Kansas.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force as a Sgt in WW II. Al served his country in the United States Army Airforce in the occupational forces. He served with the 317 Troop Carrier Group and transferred to Japan for about 6 months before transferring to Germany. Moved to Salina, Kansas and then to Shreveport, Louisiana.
Al worked for the National Cooperative Refinery Association for 40 years and retired in 1991 as an Instrument Leaderman.
Al was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 and American Legion Post 24 both of McPherson, Kansas.
Al enjoyed hunting, fishing, was very good working with his hands, restoring antique cars, woodworking, and was a master of all trades. He loved his family, spending time with his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren were very precious to him.
Al was united in marriage to Ruth Carol Heap on December 30, 1951 at El Dorado, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson, Kansas.
He is survived by his daughters, Tina Postier, and her husband Charles, of McPherson, Kansas and Dawn Erickson, of McPherson, Kansas; his grandchildren, Luke Postier, and his wife Tasha, of McPherson, Kansas, Andy Erickson and his wife Lauren, of Lenexa, Kansas, Elkee Erickson, of McPherson, Kansas; his great-grandchildren, Kaleb Postier, of McPherson, Kansas and Kinsley Postier, of McPherson, Kansas.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, James “Jim”, Marvin, Robert “Bob”, Joe, Morris, and George Goodson; his two sisters, Verla May Eastman and Deloris Johanson.
Friends are also invited to call Monday, January 29, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Glidden – Ediger Chapel.
The funeral service will be held at Glidden – Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas, at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 30th, 2018 with The Reverend Tim Leaf officiating.
Burial will be at the New Gottland Lutheran Church Cemetery McPherson, Kansas, with military honors presented by the members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 and the American Legion Post 24 both of McPherson, Kansas.
