Betty Weis entered into the glory of heaven and the presence of her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ on Jan. 4, 2021 at the age of 91. Betty was born on April 3, 1929 in Garden Plain, Kansas to parents Lawrence and Lula (Meridith) Hammond. Betty quickly became big sister to brother John and sister Pat and the family was complete. The family moved to Argonia, Wellington, Topeka and eventually ended up in Salina where Betty became a lifelong resident.
While still in high school Betty met her best friend and future husband, Eddie Weis. The two were married January 11, 1948 and enjoyed 66 years together. Eddie and Betty raised three children Ann, Mary and Mike and in their later years adopted a son Harold.
Betty was a natural born homemaker and everything she put her hand to made her home a pleasant and beautiful place to be. She loved to cook and clean, can and freeze garden produce. She was a master cake decorator and made dozens of beautiful and delicious cakes for birthdays, graduations and weddings. She loved to put on a pot of coffee, set out some cookies and visit with friends and family whenever they happened to stop by. Memories of days on State Street Road and Carolina Drive will always remain a source of joy for three generations of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty also worked part time over the years as a bookkeeper for Duckwalls and Suburban TV.
She has been a long-time member of First Covenant Church of Salina where she faithfully and joyfully served with her church family. Betty’s family will always remember her with love and admiration – and thankfulness for the example she has left. She will be missed, always loved and never forgotten.
Betty was preceded in death by parents, Lawrence and Lula Meridith Hammond; brother, John Hammond; and husband Eddie.
She is survived by sister Pat Brown (Ray); children, Ann Peck (Carson), Mary Overstreet (George), Michael Weis (Terry), and Harold Weis; grandchildren, Marianne Werner, Christy Dayhoff, Jennie Overstreet, Michael Miller, Mary Bedient, Lucinda Sanders, and Jared Weis; along with 14 great-grandchildren.
A private family graveside service and burial was held at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Culver.
