David Claire Bernhardt, 80, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 12:19 p.m., Monday, December 30th, 2020 while in the company of family members, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
David was born in Herington, Kansas on January 20, 1939, a son of Godfrey G. and Malinda Johanna (Langhofer) Bernhardt.
David attended Ramona Elementary School, Ramona, Kansas, Lost Springs Junior High and graduated from Lost Springs High School, Lost Springs, Kansas in 1958.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church McPherson.
Through the years David worked for COOP, Tampa and Marion, Kansas, Canton Ready Mix, Canton, Kansas, several oil companies in the McPherson, Kansas area and McPherson County Public Works McPherson, Kansas.
David was a member of Kpers and SAL.
David enjoyed fishing, taking vacations, keeping his vehicles clean and properly maintained, loved the farm, helped his neighbors during harvest, and spending time with friends and family.
David Bernhardt was united in marriage to Virginia Susie Dody on December 29, 1963 in St. Johns Lutheran Church, Ramona, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in Tampa, Kansas. This union was blessed with the birth of two sons, David W. and Douglas.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years Susie Bernhardt, of McPherson, Kansas; his sons, David Bernhardt, of McPherson, Kansas and Doug Bernhardt and his wife Melissa, of Inman, Kansas; his siblings, Anna Atchinson, of Lee Summit, Missouri and John Bernhardt, of Wichita, Kansas.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Dylan Bernhardt(Megan) and Abigail Bernhardt(Seth Bartel); his great-grandchild, Hudson Bernhardt
David was preceded in death by his parents; his sibling, Chester Bernhardt, Doris Morgan, Ora Hallaux, Rose Bethe, Daryl Bernhardt, Stanley Bernhardt, Owen Bernhardt, and Arvis Weed.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11th, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Emily Cannon and Reverend Jo Meade officiating.
Burial will be at a later date.
