Donald D. Collins

Donald D. Collins, age 75, entered into rest on Saturday, January 23, 2021, Cloud County Health Center, Concordia, Kansas. He was born in Concordia on September 5, 1945 to Robert and Nadine (Bergstrom) Collins.
Don graduated from Concordia High School, Concordia, Kansas in 1963.On March 1, 1974 he married Pauline J. Fortin in Concordia, Kansas. She survives of the home. Don and his brother, Dennis, operated Collins Racing and he has been involved with auto racing for 60 years.

He was a V.I.P. at the 81 Speedway in Wichita, Kansas and active in the NCRA racing circuit. Don served in the US Army National Guard and was honorably discharged. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited. Don was a welding foreman at Alstom Power and Gerard Tank & Steel for many years. He was owner of multiple rental homes in the Concordia community and was a landlord for most of his life.

Don loved people! He never knew a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need. Family was most important to him, especially spending time with his daughter, Jessica, and granddaughter, Vida. He and Pauline took great joy in hosting the family Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations.

Don is survived by his wife, Pauline, Concordia, KS; Daughter, Jessica Collins and her daughter, Vida Romero both of Lawrence, KS; sisters, Phyllis Ostrom (Larry), Diane Sothers (Rodney),and Ronda Gumm (Jeff) all of Concordia, KS; sister-in-law Karen Collins, Benton, KS; numerous nieces and nephews, and honorary brother, Brian Fry, Whitewater, KS.;

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Nadine, and brother, Dennis Collins.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 29, 2021 at the First Presbyterian Church, Concordia, KS with Pastor Bob Frasier officiating. In respect of Don and with regard to current COVID circumstances, masks will be mandatory. Burial of the cremains will take place at a later time at the Saron Baptist Cemetery.

A visitation will be held at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, KS from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2021.
