Donald M. “Don” Cunningham, 93, of Salina, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2020. He was born October 21, 1927, in Stafford, the son of Floyd “F.E.” and Lela (Dove) Cunningham.
He grew up as the son of a farmer and learned a range of agricultural and mechanical skills from his father. He served in the army at the end of World War II, where he received additional training in diesel and auto mechanics. He was in the automotive business for much of his working life, owning car dealerships and service stations in Augusta, Wichita, and Salina. He also worked at Beech Aircraft. As a father, grandfather, and friend, he shared with others his love of the outdoors, of wildlife, and of games of all kinds. He was a member of Belmont Boulevard Christian Church, where also he worked as a volunteer.
Don was preceded in death by his wife of over 70 years, Patsy (Barrett) Cunningham, and by two brothers, Harold and Gary Cunningham. He is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Beverly Cunningham, of Ponca City, Okla.; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Marlies Cunningham, of Holland, Mich.; and two grandchildren, Nick and Lee Hittner-Cunningham (the latter known to Granddad as “E. Ruth.”)
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 5, at Turon Cemetery, Turon, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Belmont Boulevard Christian Church, in care of Ryan Mortuary, Salina.
