Donald Price Vandegrift, 64, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. He was born Dec. 24, 1953, in Salina, Kansas, to Fred and Janet Vandegrift.
Don was noted for his athletic ability and his “Never Say Die” attitude on the basketball court. He graduated from Salina South in 1972, then went on to Kansas State University where he was a manager for the men’s basketball team, and a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business then moved back to Salina to begin working at Consolidated Printing.
Don and his wife, Robin, later became the owners of Consolidated as well as Express Print and Signs. “Vandy” was an avid golfer and spent many hours of his free time at Great Life Golf and Fitness, surrounded by many who loved him. He is remembered as a hardworking and honest businessman by his nearly 50 employees and many loyal customers, as well as a fun-loving and generous friend. He loved his wife and family dearly, and providing for them was his highest priority.
Survivors include: his wife, Robin and their three children: Brady and wife, Mai of Boise, Idaho; Audrey and husband, Chad Mortimer and their children, Gracie and Jake of Salina, and Callie, of Boise, Idaho; as well as sister and brother-in-law, Mary Deb and Tony Hedges, of Tennessee, and their family.
Don was preceded in death by: his father, Fred Vandegrift; mother and step-father Janet and Gene Meier; and his brother, Fred.
Celebration of Life to be held Wednesday, August 8 at 3 p.m. at Webster Conference Center in Salina. Reception at Great Life Golf and Fitness to follow.
