Dora Lee (Crutchfield) Freeman, 93, died Thursday, January 16, 2025, in Salina, KS. She was born August 2, 1931, near Sheridan, AR., the daughter of George and Ella Crutchfield.
She married Dakron Spates (Pete) Freeman on March 11, 1950, in Benton Arkansas. They met while working at the State hospital in Little Rock Arkansas. When their first child was still an infant, they moved to California. She was a homemaker until their third child started school and she went to work for Hylond Convalescent Hospital where she received awards for excellent service.
Dora was unable to finish school growing up because she was needed at home to help raise her siblings. But as years went by, she continued to educate herself. She eventually earned her GED in her sixties. She was a Yoga student, Karate student and took music lessons with her daughter.
Dora and her husband retired to Prattsville, Arkansas in 1994 where they resided until his death in 2005. She then moved to Salina, Kansas to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law.
She is survived by two sons, Gerald Freeman and Terry Freeman and one daughter, Darlene (Jeff) Nicholson. While she had no grandchildren, she had many who called her Grandma Dora.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete; and siblings George, Bobby Joe, Mary Lynn, Dale, Wayne, Ray, Carolyn, Vernon, and David.
There will be no visitation. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday January 24, 2025 at the Belmont Blvd. Christian Church, Salina. A private internment will be at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Belmont Church, the Salina Food Bank or the donor’s choice.
