Doris P. Schocke, age 97, of Overland Park, KS, died Thursday, August 9, 2018 at the Village at Carroll Park, Grandview, MO. She was born in rural Cloud County, KS on March 30, 1921 to William “Fred” F. & Pearl M. (Marley) Phelps.
She attended Fairview Dist. #67 school until the 8th grade. She worked at the Igloo Café in Concordia until she moved out to Seattle, WA during WWII and worked for Boeing as a ‘Rosie the Riveter’. When she returned to Concordia, she met a young man, named John Dale Schocke at the Concordia POW Camp at a polka dance. They were married on Dec. 31, 1952. After they were married, they lived in Belleville, KS until they moved to Salina, KS in 1960. They then moved to Overland Park, KS in 1964 and were residents until he preceded her on Dec. 6, 1993. She was a homemaker. Doris was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Overland Park. She was an excellent seamstress and loved tending to her flowers.
She is survived by her sons; Darwin Schocke (Barbara), Raytown, MO & Roger Schocke, Overland Park; 4 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren & several nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; son, Norris; a grandson, Jason Schocke; her parents and a sister, Dorothy File.
Funeral services will be 1:30 pm, Sat., Aug. 18, 2018 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia with Rev. Janai Robinson-Makarov officiating. Burial will follow at the Union Cemetery, Wayne. Friends may sign the register book from 9 am to 5 pm, Friday, Aug. 17, 2018 at the funeral home.
