Duane Chester “Scribby” Scribner, 69, of McPherson, Kansas passed away at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 16th, 2019 suddenly at his residence.
Duane was born in El Dorado, Kansas on February 17, 1950, a son of Chester and Beulah (Singleton) Scribner.
Duane attended Washington Elementary School, El Dorado Junior High School and graduated from El Dorado High School, El Dorado, Kansas in 1968. He then attended Butler Community College, El Dorado, Kansas.
He attended First Christian Church in McPherson.
He served in the Army National Guard.
Duane moved to McPherson to work at Femco and shortly afterwards began his career at NCRA doing a number of different job duties and retired as Maintenance Supervisor with over 30 years of service.
Duane was a member of the American Legion Post 24, McPherson, Kansas.
Duane enjoyed KU Basketball, golf, fishing, baseball, playing cards,
tennis and spending time with his friends and family
Duane Scribner was united in marriage to Rhonda “Shelly” Kasper on April 17, 1971 in El Dorado, Kansas. This union was blessed with the birth of a daughter, Kelli. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson, Kansas. On February 20, 1988. Duane was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Venable in Lindsborg, Kansas. This union brought together three children, Kelli, Melissa and Tim.
He is survived by his children, Kelli Haigh and her husband Dustin , of Lindsborg, Kansas, Melissa Smith and her husband Clint, of McPherson, Kansas and Tim Schmidt and his wife Baylee, of McPherson, Kansas; his sister Janet Smith and her husband Dean, of McPherson, Kansas. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Katelyn Haigh, Britton Haigh, Alaina Haigh, Carson Smith, Sawyer Smith, Harper Smith, Zoee Schmidt, Monroe Schmidt and his great-grandchild, Ryland Waite.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Beth Scribner
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at the First Christian Church, McPherson, Kansas with Pastor Lynn Scott officiating.
Burial will be at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas.
