Edward Eugene Glassburn Jr., known to his loved ones as Gene, was born on November 7, 1952 in Salina, Kansas to Edward Eugene Glassburn Sr and Sharon L Glassburn. He passed away on May 1, 2024 in his hometown of Salina, KS.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Eugene Glassburn Sr and Sharon L Glassburn, his brother Louie Fair Glassburn (known as Pete), and his son-in-law Dennis Prothro, Jr.
He is survived by his devoted spouse, Willa Jo Glassburn, his children Regina Prothro, Fawn Albers and her husband Tim Albers, Ariel Glassburn, and her partner Sean Clark. Gene is also survived by his beloved sister, Dawn Glassburn, and his six cherished grandchildren: Colton and Trent Prothro, Drake and Tyler Clark, and Kyle & James Albers.
Gene and Willa Jo were united in marriage on June 25, 1978 in Lindsborg, Kansas, celebrating 45 years of love and companionship. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared countless memories.
Gene received his education from Salina Central High School and Salina Area Vocational-Technical College. He proudly served in the Army and was stationed in Germany in the early 1970s, where he demonstrated his dedication to his country.
In his professional life, Gene worked at Holiday Mansion as a supervisor, utilizing his skills in fiberglass work on prestigious boats. He later retired from OCCK, where he held the position of crew supervisor.
Outside of work, Gene found joy in camping, fishing, and diving into books as an avid reader. He had a deep passion for history and the supernatural, always eager to expand his knowledge and share his interests with others.
Gene was known for his kindness and generosity, always ready to offer a helping hand to his family and friends in times of need.
A funeral service to honor and remember Gene’s life will be held on May 30, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Grace Baptist at 400 E. Crawford in Salina, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tammy Walker Cancer Center.
