Gene Allen Knackstedt

Gene Allen Knackstedt, 84, of Inman, Kansas, passed away at 3:50 p.m., Thursday, January 3rd, 2019 while in the company of family members, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, Reno County.

Gene Allen was born in Hutchinson, Kansas on November 25, 1934, a son of Edna Lucille (Knackstedt) and Elmer Otto Knackstedt.

Gene Allen attended Clark Country School and graduated from Inman High School, Inman, Kansas in 1952.

He was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ Inman, Kansas where he served as an Elder, President of the Church Council, a member of the Men’s Fellowship and participated in the annual groundhog supper.

He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves.

Gene Allen was a Dairyman and Farmer all his life.

Gene Allen was a delegate to the board of Associated Milk Producers Inc., member of Dairy Farmers of America, and Holstein Association. Gene Allen enjoyed dairy farming, going to Branson, and seeing the shows, loved RFD-TV when he was not able to get out, traveling with Phyllis and the AMPI trips, also known as the family historian, and spending time with his family and friends.

Gene Allen Knackstedt was united in marriage to Phyllis Joan Peterson on October 10, 1954 at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Inman, Kansas. The young couple established their first home just north of Inman on his parents Homestead.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 64 years, Phyllis Knackstedt, of Inman, Kansas; his children, Dwight Knackstedt and wife Pam, of Inman, Kansas, Lynette Guhr and her husband Mike, of Newton, Kansas, Steven Knackstedt and wife Kay, of Inman, Kansas, and Kendall Knackstedt and wife Becky, of Inman, Kansas; his ten grandchildren Justin Knackstedt (Krista), Tyler Knackstedt (Kaleena) Jenna Crawford (Carl), Michaela Watson (Patrick), Lauren Stauffer (Keil), Jade Knackstedt, Dawson Knackstedt, Baxter Knackstedt (Madison), Kristen Knackstedt, and Tanner Knackstedt; his seven great-grandchildren, Grant Knackstedt, Kendi Knackstedt, Kaden Johnson, Coryn Knackstedt, Claira Knackstedt, Cash Crawford, and Taisley Guhr; other relatives and a host of friends.

Gene Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Edna Knackstedt.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 7, 2019 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Inman, Kansas.

Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at North Inman Cemetery, Inman, Kansas.

Memorial service will be held at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Inman, Kansas, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 with Reverend Dennis Ureche officiating.
