Glen F. Kochanowski, 76, of Salina, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2019. He was born July 28, 1942 in Pittsburgh, Pa. Glen was raised in Pittsburgh and joined the Navy after graduating high school. It was in the Navy that he met Vivian French, whom he joined in marriage, Nov. 30, 1963, in Gypsum.
Glen had a life-long career in service to Salina and Saline County. He served on the Salina Police Department for 31 years, retiring as Assistant Chief of Police, and then served the next 20 years as Saline County Sheriff, retiring in January 2017. He was a member of the National Sheriffs’ Association, IACP Life Member, American Jail Association, Kansas Peace Officers Association, Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police, and FBI National Academy Associates. Glen coached youth baseball from 1966 to 1988 and enjoyed cars, yardwork, building farm scenes, fishing, and most of all, spending time with his family.
He is survived by: his wife of 55 years, Vivian; children, Glenda Shoemaker (Dennis), Pat Kochanowski (Margo), and Sean Kochanowski; siblings, Fred “Kook” Kochanowski (Diane), and Adele Miller (Frank “Skip”); in-laws, Sylvia Moore (Ron); many gran,dchildren and great-grandchildren; and his cat, Rascal.
Glen was preceded in death by: his parents, Chester and Esther (Liebold) Kochanowski; and in-laws, Carl and Jane French.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 29, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N 8th St, Salina.
Memorial services with be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at Emmanuel Foursquare Church, 1325 E Cloud St, Salina. A private inurnment will be at Gypsum Hill Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Special Olympics, in care of Ryan Mortuary.
