Harriet Maxine Banninger Slick, 100, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019. She was born May 7, 1918, in Bennington to Hubert and Harriet (Raskop) Spohn.
Maxine taught school for many years, beginning in a one room school house at age 18 and retiring from Salina USD 305 in 1982. She married Harold Banninger of Glendale in 1942. They had two children. Maxine was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and Salina Retired Teachers, and a volunteer at Salina Regional Health Center. Maxine married Leslie Aubrey Slick of Bennington in 1997.
Maxine is survived by her two children, Sheryl Russell, of Salina, and Loren Banninger (Sue), of Salina; five grandchildren, Aaron Russell, Derek Russell, Todd Russell, Christopher Banninger and Laura Easterday; eight great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn Smith, Alyssa Russell, Henry and Joseph Russell, Corbin and Brooke Banninger, and Alec and Cole Easterday; and one great-great-grandchild, Brantley. She is also survived by her brother, Wayne Spohn; sisters, Marietta Gotti and Veda Hoffhaus; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and four brothers, Averill, Dean, Donald and Larry Spohn.
Services for Maxine will be held in the spring.
