Jack McGeary

Jack McGeary, 90, of Salina, passed away Friday, June 29, 2018. Jack was born in Westfall in 1927 to James and Olive McGeary.

He attended Westfall Freedom School and graduated from Beverly High School in 1945. He married Wilma Webb in 1947. They lived in Beverly and ran Jack’s Cafe until he entered the U.S. Army in 1952 and moved to Salina after his discharge in 1953. He worked at Salina Concrete, Holsum, and Wonder Bread Bakery. He retired from Wonder Bread in 1991 after 38 years. He was a proud member of Teamsters and a lifetime member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.

He will be missed by: his wife of 70 years, Wilma; sister, Wanda Plinsky (Darrell) of Wichita; daughters, Judy Arpin (Ken) of Salina, and Pam VanSchmus (Derek) of Lawrence; grandchildren, Jessica Putman (Kevin) of Galva, Mitchell Arpin of North Las Vegas, Nev., and Emily VanSchmus of Des Moines, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Jack and Kennedy Putman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Emmett and sisters, Delma Drake, and Eileen Hartley.

Celebration of Life will be 1:30-3 p.m. Monday, July 9, at Presbyterian Manor. A private family graveside service will be held.
