James “Jim” William Becker, 83, passed away on August 25, 2024, at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, KS.
Born on December 18, 1940, to Earl and Estella Becker of Minneapolis, KS, Jim was the seventh of ten children. He attended Assaria Grade School but left after the 8th grade to work on farms, eventually entering the construction field as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic. He retired as shop foreman from Busboom & Rauh.
In 1964, Jim met the love of his life, Rita, and after many trips and long-distance calls, they married on December 12, 1964. They had two children, Brian and Barbara. Jim’s life was filled with joy when his granddaughters, grandson, and great-granddaughter were born.
Known for his homemade ice cream and Christmas fudge, Jim also enjoyed tinkering with engines and was a founding member of the Kansas Tractor Club. He was often seen in parades on his John Deere 420 or driving a buggy with a horse he trained.
Jim was a man of many talents and loved by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, several siblings, and sisters-in-law.
He is survived by his wife, Rita; son, Brian (Valerie); daughter, Barbara; grandchildren, Kelsey (Joe), Kyleigh, and Trace; great-granddaughter, Ellie; sister, Lena Sims; and brother, Fred Becker.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 29, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Roselawn Memorial Heights Chapel, Salina, KS, with services on Friday, August 30 at 10:00 AM. Inurnment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Kansas Tractor Club Scholarship Fund, c/o Roselawn Burial and Cremation Services, Salina, KS.
