Janet Mae (Mosbacher) Hill, 83, passed away Thursday December 16, 2021 in Colwich Ks. A celebration of her life will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday December 21, 2021 at Christ the King, Lutheran Church Salina KS. with visitation starting at 9:30 AM at the church.
Janet was born December 9, 1938 in St. Louis, MO. to Rev. Milton William Mosbacher and Rose Isabelle Hildebrand. She spent most of her younger years in the St. Louis area until she moved with her family to Springfield IL, where her father Rev. Mosbacher took a pastoral position at Clementine Memorial Presbyterian church. Janet graduated high school and began what was to be a long career in nursing, enrolling at the School of Nursing at Memorial Hospital in Springfield IL. Where she graduated with her Registered Nursing certification.
While in Springfield, she met H. Dennis Hill who was studying at Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary. They were married on July 6, 1960 in Springfield and soon after Dennis was assigned his vicarage in at Trinity Lutheran Church in Orlando Fl. While in Orlando their first son Steven was born and soon after they moved, back to Springfield so Dennis could finish his last year at the Seminary.
Dennis’ first parish call was to Kensington KS. where their second child Mary was born to them. Janet spent most of her time at home with two children and performing the duties of a pastor’s wife.
The family moved to Derby KS. Where Dennis accepted a call to Faith Lutheran Church. While in Derby a third child Michael, was born and Janet began playing the organ for church services. She had her hands full with three young children and providing the congregational music and directing a small choir.
In 1972, the family moved to Leavenworth KS. where Dennis accepted a call to Trinity Lutheran Church. As the family grew older, Janet went back to work as a Registered Nurse.
Janet started working again at Cushing Memorial Hospital as an RN in the surgical department. While there, she achieved the one of the first certifications in the state of Kansas of a Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR). Janet also was very instrumental in establishing the first Hospice program in Leavenworth County. Janet continued providing care to many patients in the Leavenworth area.
In 1986, Janet and Dennis moved to Salina KS where Dennis accepted a call to Christ the King Lutheran Church. Dennis left the pastoral ministry and finished his career at Central Kansas Mental Health in Salina. Janet went to work in the operating room at St. Johns Hospital in Salina until the hospitals closure. She moved over to Salina Regional Hospital and continued her nursing work in the operating rooms there. While working full time, Janet played the organ and directed the choir for Christ the King.
Her father, Rev. Milton William Mosbacher and mother Rose Isabelle Mosbacher preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband Dennis; children Steven Hill (Mandi), Mary Clarke-Hagle (Michael), and Michael Hill; siblings Mary Matasovsky (Dan), Wanda Dorn (Vern) and James Mosbacher; grandchildren Dr. Jacque Hill, Tyler Barnes, Kyle Hill, Taylor Hill, Matthew Clarke, Maverick Helson, and Hudson Hill; great grandchildren Isaac Hill and Carson Hill.
