John C. Spaeny Sr., 88, passed away January 13, 2024, with family by his side. Born June 22, 1935 in Fort Riley, Kansas to Henry H. and Emily E. (Disney) Spaeny. John graduated from Salina High School in 1953. Later he met Becky while working together at SH Kress. He married Becky (Henne) Spaeny on April 9, 1955 and together were married for 68 years. John worked at Salina Planeing Mill, Westinghouse and Philips Lighting. John retired after 27 years from Philips.
Some hobbies John enjoyed all his life were hunting, fishing and camping, he was a member of Rod & Gun Club. For many years he traveled with his wife Becky. He was an avid gardener and grew vegetables and shared with friends and neighbors. John enjoyed woodshop and in later years built many elaborate bird houses to be shared with family and friends. John never new a stranger, he loved meeting and visiting people.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry H. Sr. and Emily Spaeny; sisters, Betty Brady and Helen Jenkins; brother, Henry Spaeny Jr. and grandson, Jason Farres.
Survivors include, wife, Becky Spaeny; sons, John C. Jr. and wife Judy, Larry Spaeny and wife Sue; daughter, Deb Farres and husband Dan; 8 grandkids, Jason Farres, Jamie Farres – Nutz, Melissa Spaeny – Langton, Mike Spaeny, Adam Spaeny, Breanna Spaeny – Sirois, Ashley Spaeny – Long and Jake Spaeny; 10 great grandkids.
A Celebration of Life service will be Sunday, February 25, 2024 from 1:30pm to 3:30pm, at the Carver Center, 315 N. 2nd St., Salina.
Memorial contributions to Salvation Army or St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital and sent in care of Ryan Mortuary.
