Funeral services for John G. Olson, age 86, of Smithville, Missouri will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2019 at the Abilene Cemetery in Abilene with Reverend John Collins officiating. Mr. Olson passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at his home in Smithville.

He was born May 3, 1933 in Salina the son of Arvid and Ruby (Rucas) Olson. John served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Following the war, John worked for the Burlington-Northern Railroad as a switchman for many years until retiring. He was also a member of United Transportation Union Local 0005, Lifetime Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10906, and The American Legion Post 58

On April 19, 1953, John was united in marriage to Gladys Allen in San Francisco, California. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his daughters Janice Thompson of Gladstone, Missouri and Cathy Olson of Smithville, Missouri; two granddaughters Tami and her husband Kile Reynolds, Shannon and her husband Cody Schremmer, great grandchildren are Matt “little Johnny” Reynolds, Dakota Reynolds and Riley Schremmer. He was preceded in death by his parents.
