John Joseph “Jay” Graves, 81, passed away February 14, 2021. He was born May 9, 1939 in Salina. Jay dedicated his life’s work to the trucking industry. He had many roles in family owned Graves Truck Line in Salina. Following the sale of Graves Truck Line Jay was involved with several local trucking companies until moving to Kansas City. In Kansas City he represented unionized trucking companies in negotiations with the Teamsters union until his retirement. Jay was always quick with a joke and was the life of any party he attended. He was generous of his time and resources and will be missed by all that knew him.Survivors include: sons, Mike Graves, Doug Graves (Peggy), Jason Graves (Cathy), daughter, Debi Young (Ronny), stepmother, Helen L. Graves, sister, Patti Counts, half-sister, Carolyn Walker and step-daughter, Jodi Alberici (Mario) and 8 grand/step-grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his wife, Linda L. Graves, father, John A. Graves and brother, Donald L. Graves.
A private service for family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Salina Rescue Mission or Rolling Hills Zoo.
