John Thomas Zimmerman passed away in Salina on the morning of April 27, 2024. He was 85 years old.
John was born on October 5, 1938 in Cawker City, Kansas to Frank and Ruth Zimmerman. He moved to Jewell, Kansas as a child and resided there until graduating High School in 1956. In 1958, John enlisted in the United States Air Force, and while stationed in Salina, Kansas, met Marilyn LaBarge of Damar, Kansas and they were married in 1959. They moved to Topeka, Kansas where John was stationed at Forbes Air Force base. John and Marilyn had three children while living in Topeka, and John later took a job at a steel plant and was transferred to South Bend, Indiana in 1968.
John and Marilyn, along with their children moved to Jewell, Kansas in the Summer of 1973, where he proceeded to farm with his father, Frank Zimmerman of Beloit, Kansas. John made many friends, and was active in the community and his church.
John and Marilyn moved to Salina, Kansas in 1989 and he later worked for the United States Postal Service until he retired in the year 2000 at the age of 62.
Survivors include: his wife Marilyn, Sons Greg Zimmerman (wife Kathy), and Jeff Zimmerman (wife Paula), daughter Lori Hiller (husband Robert), grandchildren: Courtney Gentry, Jacob Zimmerman and other family members.
