Judith Ann (Mathiasmeier) Lutz

Judith Ann Lutz, 83, passed away Friday, June 16, 2023, at her home in Lindsborg, KS. She was born November 15, 1939, in Arkansas City, KS, to James and Hope (Merritt) Mathiasmeier. While growing up in Ark City, Judy was a girl scout, and sang in the church choir. Judy attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated high school in Arkansas City in 1957. She later moved to Dodge City, KS, to go to school at St. Mary of the Plains College. Judy graduated from SMPC in 1961, with an education degree. Judy met Bob in Dodge City while attending SMPC and they married Dec. 27, 1961.

In 1972, Bob, Judy, and their five children moved to Minneapolis KS. In 1999, they moved to Gypsum, KS. Judy moved to Lindsborg in 2018. She traveled to Hawaii, Mexico, Germany, Italy and across the U.S. many times. Judy taught for a year in Larned, KS, and taught Spanish lessons for years in Minneapolis and Salina.

Judy loved to create hedge root Santa Clauses, making over 2000 of the unique creations. Judy was an avid reader, she loved languages, especially German. Judy and Bob were members of the German- American Club in Salina for many years.  She was a devout Catholic, reading the bible everyday and listening to Catholic radio 101.7. She was involved in many charities during her lifetime as well. Simply put, Judy never knew a stranger. She was kind and had a keen sense of humor.

Judy is survived by her daughters, Mary (James) Coy, of Lindsborg, KS and Heidi Lutz, of Stephenson, VA; and son, Christian, of Hays, KS and wife Martha, of Woodland Park, CO; brother, Ken (Jackie) Mathiasmeier of Simpsonville, SC; sister Rebecca Jordan of Skiatook, OK; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Preceded in her death by her parents; husband, Bob Lutz; and sons, Gene Lutz and Joe Lutz.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 29, at St. Bridget’s of Sweden Catholic Church, 206 W. Swensson Street, Lindsborg, KS. A lunch will follow the service. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Gypsum. Friends may visit from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, with family receiving friends at 6 p.m. and rosary at 7 p.m. All at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth St., Salina 67401.
