Award winning chef and talented radio personality, Brother Ken’s love of his family and friends did not end with his death. Kenneth Dale Scates was called home to God on March 18, 2022, while surrounded by loved ones.
Ken started working in radio at the age of 14 and was soon dubbed “Wild Ken Cody, “and later, “Brother Ken.”
After his service in the Vietnam war, he returned to radio where he worked as a DJ and band promoter in Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. He then married the love of his life, Jill Anne Scates, and moved to Salina, Kansas.
Ken’s humorous and passionate creativity spilled into all facets of his life, bringing laughter and good times to everyone around him. After retirement, Ken pursued his interest in cooking, winning awards in barbeque and other cooking competitions, and creating the YouTube channel, Foodi Daddi.
No matter where you came from, who you were, your politics or religion, finances or status, size color, or shape, Ken would welcome you and give you the shirt off his back. Ken’s friends and family will keep alive his legacy by keeping their hearts open without judgment.
Our beloved Ken is preceded in death by his parents, John, and Mary; parents-in-law, Lee and Carol (Rutz); sister Ila Mae; brothers; Johnny, Lee, Ray, Red, and Wayne; daughter Misty; son Bobby; and granddaughter Rayven (Blaha).
