LaVerne W. Parks, Sr., age 80, entered into rest on Friday, January 15, 2021, at Mount Joseph Senior Village, in Concordia, Kansas. He was born on April 3, 1940 in Hill City, Kansas to Moses and Lelah (Collins) Parks. He was the youngest of 6 children. At the age of 3 the family moved to Salina, Kansas. LaVerne is formerly of Salina and Hutchinson area.
He attended Salina Central High School. LaVerne Served in the United States Army active duty in Ft. Hood, Texas as a Jeep driver and in human resources. He also served in the National Guard and Reserves as a mechanic and military police officer, for a combined total of 14 years. During his life LaVerne was a jack of all trades, but most proud of his service to his country.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #76, Concordia. He loved dancing and was an avid bingo player. LaVerne married Betty Frybarger in 1964 and they later divorced.
LaVerne is survived by a son, LaVerne Parks, Jr. (Nancy), Hutchinson, KS; Leroy Parks (Peggie), Concordia, KS; daughters, Wanda Harlow, Overland Park, KS; Melinda Boyles, MO.; Beverly Parks, Concordia, KS; 23 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Moses and Lelah, son, Leonard Parks, daughter, Barbara Parks, 1 brother, Bill Parks, 4 sisters, Berdena Sisler, Bertha Sisler, Stella Sisler, and Lorene Lowell.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January, 19, 2021 from 1-8 pm at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.
Funeral Service will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas with Rev. LaVerne Parks, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas.
